Have you been using manual focus mode in your DSLR camera?

I always do manual focusing on my nikon d80 when doing macro shots.. Its "nakasanayan na" for me to do so. (Its an old dog trick/habit).

Being an aged bloke wearing eye glasses it's difficult to focus manually on DSLR viewfinders. When focusing manually, I monitor the focus indicator dot on the viewfinder until it becomes steady whenever I see my subject is sharp in view.

Somehow I miss my outdated canon film slr which has a manual focus display in the viewfinder simulated by two semi-circles aligning with each other when you turn the lens focus rings.

Installing a focusing screen in your DSLR will be a great help in manual focusing. Here are some info regarding this.

After installing a focusing screen will your DSLR's AF function be affected? Discussed in this forum link..

Butch, I haven't tried it yet. I got this information from my brother who uses a Nikon D40. It took him 10 minutes to install it in his camera. This is the tricky and difficult part.

He installed it because he bought some lenses which does not have any built in AF motor.

He bought it online and use type K3 from Katzeyeoptics. He was very satisfied with the result and it does not affect AF function of his D40.
