Blunder 1. Having a cheap built tripod without proper counterweight support. Even with a camera mounted on tripod, a breeze of wind will cause your tripod legs to vibrate.

Sample of a blurred photo.

Lens : Sigma 70-300mm APO DG Macro | Tv :8 secs, Av:f11  ISO:320, FL:70mm , EV:0

This shot was taken by holding two of the tripod legs after pressing the shutter. Using my hands to dampen the tripod vibration.

I remember one of the guys mentioned to put a counterweight on the tripod hook, like a back pack, to dampen the vibration. My excuse, I really did not know what the hook in the tripod is used for.. Shame on me... images/icones/icon11.gif

Blunder 2. Trusting a fast lens will take sharp photos in low light conditions.(I have tested this lens indoors inside my room when I first bought it. I does take crisp pictures and in low lighting condition..) which led to..

Blunder 3. Not considering the effects of wind and unsteady hands when shooting handheld at night... which led to

Blunder 4. Bringing my tripod and not using it.. (My excuse, testing my handheld ability during night photoshoots. I got used to using my P&S camera with image stabilizer).. which again led to..

Blunder 5. Not double checking my AF switch and AF mode in my camera... (I am sometimes unaware that I flick the AF/MF switch when holding my camera)..

Sorry guys for not perfecting this group shot and for wasting the moment of a good photo opportunity.

How about these shots?

Blunder 6. Trusting a fast lens will work on low light conditions without a need of a fill flash.

This shot is a fine example..

Being frustrated by the results of today's photoshoot, somehow I keep hearing in my mind the famous Salbakuta rendition of the song "Evergreen". images/icones/icon9.gif

To those who modelled for my shots, thanks and sorry again..

Last night was only a slight breeze of wind and not too strong.. I used my cheap Nevica NV-3600TP, I bought in abu dhabi coop..

We will not be able to know our gear capabilities unless we test it in different shooting conditions.. Practice makes us adapt our shooting habits with the type of gear we have..

Thanks for your reply..  images/icones/icon10.gif

I found out the solution for my mistake in the group shot from this link.

http://www.dofmaster.com/custom.html

This program calculates the nearest and farthest distance from the camera where the subject images will appear at their sharpest with regards to aperture setting and lens focal length.

This is why some photographers I saw use to measure the distance from the subject to their camera when using prime lenses.

If the shot was due to camera shake the subjects should have appeared with trailing edges.

Just sharing some insights here.
